I Never Did

I never looked in to the mirror
and wondered if I had your eyes.
I never heard myself laugh
and wondered if it was an echo of yours.
I never imagined you as being a millionaire.
I never thought the two of us would be a perfect pair.
I only think of you as gold paper with blue trim,
Never as loving arms, curly hair, or a little slim.
I never thought of you as Mother,
To her, you can’t compare.
I never really thought of you as anything,
truth be told to the witnesses ear.
I never admitted to the fact
that it’s hard to stare in the mirror
and have no clue who’s staring back.
I never did.
No, I never did.
