Spider’s Web

My thoughts are like a spider’s web –
beautifully dangerous.
I am the fly, buzzing erratically
until I am caught
in the sticky strands.
Certain threads connecting,
others leading nowhere.
I freeze cautiously, hoping for wind.
Then begin navigating delicately
around opaque yarns
trying to free a single limb –
becoming more entangled.
Frantically straining against my bonds
only to be bound tighter.
Fatigued with fighting
I succumb to my lair,
cocooned forever in
the beautiful irony of self-efficacy.
Why must one creature die
to sustain another?
