An Angry Poem

Sadness slips out,
anger stepping stealthily
in its place.
It is not welcome here,
or anywhere. It is
forbidden to feel.
Regardless of how far
I’ve progressed, anger
continues to elude me.
By which I mean denial.
[Or is it ignorance?]
A lack of understanding.
An inability to function
in its presence.
Always the fear that it
will overpower my good
intentions, will reign unleashed,
and never fit back in
its box, somewhere deep
beneath my heart.
